Chrysiptera parasema - Yellowtail Demoiselle
Maximum Length
2.8 in. (7.0 cm)
Minimum Aquarium Size
10 gal. (38 L)
Range
West Pacific.
Habitat
Reef. Provide with numerous hide-outs.
Foods and Feeding
Feed meaty and vegetable foods at least once a day (may be able to feed less often if enough algae is present in the tank). Color-enhancing foods can help it maintain its bright colors.
Captive Care
The Yellowtail Demoiselle can be kept with less aggressive species, but it is best to add this damsel to the tank last. In smaller quarters, it has been known to pester smaller fishes. You can also keep them together. A small group, can be kept in the same tank – males may quarrel so add several smaller individuals and a single larger specimen (the males tend to be larger than the females). It poses no threat to ornamental invertebrates.
This fish spends much of its time swimming just above the aquarium bottom looking for food (it is a zooplankton feeder). It will readily spawn in the home aquarium.
